Boundary survey

Finds and marks your property lines, so you know exactly what you own.

What you get

A licensed surveyor researches the deed and plat records, finds or sets the corner monuments, and delivers a signed, sealed plat showing your boundary lines and area. In Texas this is a Category 1B standard land survey, “a traditional boundary survey.” It doesn't show buildings or easements unless you ask for them.

When you need one

  • Before building a fence, pool or addition near the property line
  • To settle a disagreement with a neighbor about where the line is
  • Before buying land with no recent survey

Buying a home? You may need a different survey

Title companies insure title from a land title survey (Texas Category 1A), which also shows improvements and easements, not a plain boundary survey. Ask the title company which one they need before you order.

What it costs

Published ranges, not quotes. Your price depends on the property; get quotes from two or three licensed firms.
